While I also have a certain numoat of skepticism about the conversion of these hospitals from non-profit to for-profit, there can be benefits to a business oriented company taking over. First of all, this conversion will not affect the profit seeking motives of the hospitals. NP organizations still seek profits, but are required to reinvest those profits back into the organization. Caritas Christi Health Care may have been compelled toward this deal due to a lack of profits.As a business oriented company, Cerberus will look to increase the efficiency of health care delivery. This will result in a âtrimming of the fatâ in areas in the hospitals that are wasteful. The current administration will most likely be and area that is affected, which is probably the reason behind the three year waiting period. This streamlining will hopefully result in a better and less costly health care product for the individual and the community.What will be important to ensure in the public hearings is the protection of the community health as a whole. I agree with the HCFA that a comprehensive assessment of the needs of the community is essential for the deal to go through. Also, the DPH needs to make certain that those needs are met. I feel the needs of the community will be recognized in public hearings and am interested to see what happens as the deal progresses.
